Having long, luscious dark eyelashes is such a huge fashion trend these days that women are constantly looking for ways to enhance their own. Our eyes are naturally lined with anywhere from 150 to 225 lash hairs – top and bottom. But as we age our hair tends to lose its natural strength; the hair follicles of the eyelids also become weak and eyelashes start falling out. Even using eyelash extensions can harm lashes.
Dr. Amir Rouzati, founder of RejuvaMD (a premier anti-aging clinic in Toronto), has some useful info about an affordable, safe and easy-to-use product which can help you combat those thinning eyelashes and maintain that glam look.
“In the cosmetic world, even when we do Botox treatments in the forehead or around the eye, the overall aesthetic is to bring out the client’s eyes; the eyelashes are part of that eye rejuvenation theory. Latisse is a great product because it causes the client’s own eyelashes to grow thicker, denser and darker. Its active ingredient, bimatoprost, is known to promote lash growth; what it does is accelerate or prolong the active phase of the eyelash growth cycle.”
And it is simple to use – the treatment is a medicated eye drop that is applied with an applicator to the upper eyelash every night. “Within just a few weeks you will start seeing results which will continue to peak for another 3 or 4 months. When you have reached the desired length, density or thickness then there is maintenance involved – other wise the hair follicles will gradually go back to what they were.”
There are some over-the-counter products that can stimulate eyelash growth however, they don’t produce the same results as Latisse. One bottle, which will last about 6 weeks, costs $150 and can only be purchased at aesthetic clinics via a physician.
