Details: Red Sky Performance, Canada’s leading company of contemporary Indigenous performing arts, founded by executive and artistic director Sandra Laronde, is proud to kick off their fall season with the World Premiere of Miigis at Fort York National Historic Site.

Fusing contemporary Indigenous dance with powerful live music, MIIGIS explores the catalysts, trade routes and stories of a journey from the Atlantic Coast to the Great Lakes, and the seven prophecies marked by miigis.

With concept and direction by Sandra Laronde, the production is choreographed by Jera Wolfe. Six dancers include Cody Berry, Eddie Elliott, Miyeko Ferguson, Lonii Garnons-Williams, Julie Pham and Jera Wolfe, who will be joined by 12 traditional dancers. Live original music will be performed by Julian Cote, Pure Fe, Marie Gaudet, Marc Merilainen, Pierre Mongeon and Rick Sacks.

A preview will be presented at the prestigious international dance festival Jacob’s Pillow in Becket, Massachusetts in August 2017.
