How do you want your life to end? In Dividing Lines, Beatriz Pizano places individual choice in the context of the history of a continent. Moving from personal to political to spiritual, this daring, live photo-essay offers no easy answers.
We can talk about dying.
“For me, Dividing Lines is a meditation on how I want to live,” says writer/performer Beatriz Pizano. “We don’t talk about dying. In fact, as children we are mostly taught to fear death. While losing someone you love is the deepest pain, and that pain never goes away, it was through my personal experience that I also learned that it takes real love to let someone who is suffering go. Through this piece, I wanted to open up the possibility for conversations around death to take place.
Created by Aluna Theatre’s Beatriz Pizano and Trevor Schwellnus with Brandon Valdivia, Dividing Lines exemplifies Aluna’s continuing commitment to risk and experimentation. Following several years of development in Toronto, and through the Banff Playwrights Lab, Dividing Lines sees its Toronto premiere at The Theatre Centre this November.
