Renowned for presenting an impressively wide range of folk/roots artists, the Mariposa Folk Festival (July 6-8, 2012) is a three-day music experience set in Tudhope Park, Orillia on the shores of Lake Couchiching.
The festival is a weekend full of entertainment with nine stages and 100+ performances of music, dance and spoken word. And there’s more … you can roam through the Artisan’s Village, participate in interactive workshops or enjoy a beer while listening to music at the Mariposa Pub Tent. Also, children can participate in the magic of Folkplay and watch fun concerts on the Sunshine Stage. And you won’t go hungry – from Jamaican jerk to burgers and pizza there’s a wide variety of foods to sample!
This year’s stellar performer lineup included the much celebrated singer/songwriter Jann Arden as the Saturday evening headliner and, to the delight of music fans, the legendary Gordon Lightfoot as the surprise performer on the Saturday evening Main Stage. Here are some of the other acts that graced the festival stages:
Tim Arnold and Dan Schwartz of indie-folk trio Good Old War
Banjoist extraordinaire Jayme Stone
Lead singer, John Mays, of the blues and roots band, Fathead
Billy Bragg, British alternative rock musician and left-wing activist
Celtic singer Eileen McGann
Lead vocalist and songwriter, Dave Bidini of BidiniBand
