Details: From legendary artists to rising stars, the lineup for the 32nd edition of the TD Toronto Jazz Festival includes names that will resonate with jazz lovers and music fans of all ages. Here are a few of the featured acts this year:
-Jazz master Herbie Hancock, joined by James Genus, Trevor Lawrence Jr. and Lionel Loueke
-British soul singer Seal, performing his hit songs as well as material from his new album of jazz standards with a big band
-Cécile McLorin Salvant, winner of the 2018 GRAMMY for Best Vocal Jazz Album
-Vocalist Gregory Porter performing songs from his new CD, Nat King Cole and Me -Blues and soul legend Bettye LaVette, who just released an album of Bob Dylan covers The Guardian called “slinkily ferocious,” headlining our first ever Blues Revue hosted by Toronto legend Danny Marks
-Snarky Puppy, in their first Toronto play since 2016 -Tap master Savion Glover, star of the Broadway smash hit Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk, with acclaimed drummer Marcus Gilmore -Guitarist Liona Boyd paying homage to Yorkville’s folk music history of the 1960’s
The TD Toronto Jazz Festival kicks off with a celebration of gospel, soul and R&B on opening weekend with free performances throughout Yorkville that includes gospel queen CeCe Winans, the energetic No BS! Brass Band, saxophonist Jake Clemons, the soulful R&B songstress Macy Gray, vocalist Shakura S’Aida and 20 additional free concerts all weekend long.
The music continues throughout the 10-day Festival with over 165 free shows spread across Yorkville at locations including the OLG Stage on Cumberland St., OLG Stage on Yorkville Ave., OLG Stage on Hazelton Ave., Isabel Bader Theatre, The Village of Yorkville Park, Heliconian Hall, Church of The Redeemer, Hotel InterContinental, ONE Restaurant, Sassafraz and Yorkville Village The Lane.
